Emma Dehan

PhD student

Emma has a strong scientific background in protein biochemistry and structural biology. She studied Medicine and Chemical Biology at the University of Strasbourg, France. During her B.Sc. studies, she participated in the ERASMUS exchange program, spending a year at the University of Warwick, UK. After completing her B.Sc., she moved to Sweden to pursue her master's studies in Biochemistry at Uppsala University. For her M.Sc. thesis, she joined Prof. Henning Stahlberg’s group at EPFL, Switzerland, where she investigated the structural basis of telomere chromatin remodelling by TRF2. Through her research, she gained extensive expertise in protein biochemistry and single-particle Cryo-EM. In March 2025, she joined our lab as a PhD student.

Emma applies genetic engineering, biochemical techniques, flow cytometry, and single-particle Cryo-EM to explore the interplay between mitochondrial protein biosynthesis and protein quality control, particularly in the context of ageing and Parkinson’s disease.

Outside the lab, Emma is a passionate volleyball player who enjoys hiking in Sweden’s stunning landscapes, as well as reading, cooking, and traveling.
