Cold first winter in Umeå

The time around Christmas and New Year is a wonderful opportunity to take a step back, relax, and gather new energy for a great start in the new year. The only thing that made this time of the year a bit unusual for us was the rather extreme winter here in the North of Sweden. While it is usual to have a few days in winter with very cold temperatures around -20°C in Umeå, temperatures in the beginning of January reached -36°C, and stayed below -25°C for more than a week.

Astrophotography was not possible for me during this time, as the equipment (and myself) would not survive these temperatures for a whole night. However, there were some brief moments for nature photography. Here are some shots of nature and wildlife from Umeå taken below -30°C. Enjoy
