It’s one small step for a scientist, one giant leap for the Kohler Mito Lab!

Surprised by the sunny and warm weather in Umeå during summer, the journey of our lab began in August 2023, when I signed my contract as a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics.

I had the opportunity to see our lab and office space for the first time and was pleasantly surprised by the spacious area, modern furniture, and strategic placement of our rooms. The anticipation of getting started is exhilarating, but as they say, one step at a time.

My wife, Verena, and I spent two weeks in total searching for an apartment in Umeå, and we were fortunate to find one. The surroundings are beautiful, and it’s clear that Umeå is not only a great spot for science but also a wonderful place to live.

The lab will officially open its doors in October 2023, and I am thrilled to embark on this journey!
